About Us

We are all poets interested in sharing, discussing and ultimately improving the poems we write. At our meetings, we each bring a poem to discuss. Members take it in turns to offer constructive feedback and comments, although there is no obligation to do so.

The Wire

During 2023, we set a theme for members to write towards, use it as inspiration or to act as a prompt. We chose the climate emergency for our subject and began writing and sharing our poems. As we progressed we discussed gathering these together in an anthology. We are delighted to announce that our first publication Elemental Emergency will be launched at a special event at the Barnabas Art House on 30th November 2023. Costa Prize winning local poet Jonathan Edwards has kindly agreed to read for us at the launch.

We named the imprint The Wire because of Newport's industrial heritage.
