Newport Stanza

Who are we?

Newport Stanza is a poetry workshop group, affiliated to the Poetry Society.

 

Poet Angela Platt originally set up the group in 2015 and hosted meetings in her Newport home until her untimely death in 2020. We remain indebted to her and we know how delighted she would have been to see that membership has grown from strength to strength and we are now launching our inaugural issue of The Wire, a collection of member’s poems.

 

Our monthly poetry writing workshops are held on the last Wednesday of each month at Barnabas Arts House in Newport. We welcome all poets, from complete beginners to published poets or competition winners. At our workshops, each member brings a draft of a poem which they would like to share with the group. Every poem is read and discussed in a friendly and constructive atmosphere with the aim of supporting and encouraging new writing of contemporary poetry.
